Similarly, growing up in rural Montana, I didn't get much radio beyond C&W and news. Bumping into the Loss Leader compilations from Warner Brothers jump started my lifelong love of eclectic rock, folk and oddities. I can still recite the sequence of tracks from their "Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies" release. You'd send them $3.00,. and they'd mail you a two-album comp. Sweet memory.

I loved learning some of the backstory behind those "Jazz for..." compilations and couldn't help thinking that they reminded me nothing so much of the purpose-built playlists that are all over Spotify today. I'm sure Dorn wouldn't give a "flying rubber fuck" about streaming either, but here we are!
