This week's newsletter is a bit special. Today I'm launching the New Directions in Music ECM Page in order to highlight both the vast archive of ECM recordings out there and to keep abreast of news relating to ECM artists and new ECM releases. Why am I starting with ECM? The label has existed for 50 years and has released over one thousand albums of material by modern jazz artists from around the world. In addition, ECM has always represented the new, the challenging, the 'outside', the very type of music that NDIM is all about. Another reason is that I have an archive of reviews and commentary on ECM releases that I want to share with interested listeners. Most of these were written by myself, except a few that were contributed by others, which are duly noted.
