I had the opportunity to meet and interview Jesse waaay back in 71 as a young reporter at a Youngbloods show in Longview WA and he was patient and pleasant to work with then. I also enjoyed his opening set for the CSN&Young tour show in Seattle promoting the Song for Juli album. I certainly enjoyed your piece of Substack and you, should you like, can find either of my pieces, not as thorough as your wonderful work, but still a peek at his career on Through the Haze on this site as well. Thanks for the great read. I will pass it on to others. mdnav

My first concert was Jesse Colin Young opening for Judy Collins at Tanglewood. The friend I went with was a huge JCY fan and he was disappointed that Jesse was not the headliner.

I think you captured the vibe of that live album very well. My personal favorite from that album is his version of ‘Corinna’.

I knew Jesse during the time he graduated from acoustic folk to electronic R&B, and he and Jerry Corbitt formed the Youngbloods. I've been listening to his music since he passed, and am still being impressed by his talent and versatility, especially the way he could bend a lyric to break your heart. He loved to make music. He believed every note he sang, and would defend every line. His message of seeing the light within each of us and caring for one another is more relevant today than ever.
